“Training Within Industry’s Program Development
Institute was provided in order to give training in
analysis of production problems and planning of training
to meet plant needs.” – from the Program Development
Manual
The TWI Service wanted to create standard training
programs for addressing plant needs, but they realized
that because of wide variations in some areas it was not
possible for all plant problems. Program Development
(PD) was created to help Training Directors create
training programs that would fit their unique
situations. PD is thus a well-conceived approach to
problem solving which also includes information on how
to create a training program if one is needed – and the
developers thought that one would be needed 80% of the
time. JIT, JMT & JRT address the three skills of Five
Needs of A Supervisor and PD addresses the Needs of
Knowledge of Work & Knowledge of Responsibility.
The eight-hour workshop will be a shortened version of
the PD Institute. Participants are encouraged to bring
problems that they perceive in their organizations. We
will go over the basics of the PD method, work through
an example and then apply that PD to various problems
participants bring. Participants will then share their
plans with others in the group.
