Advanced Management of Job Instruction
Sourced Standard Work!
Greg MacDougall

You clearly understand the importance of effective standard work processes (involving repeatable behavior outputs) to a sustainable lean strategy, and this has rightly guided your decision making in adopting the TWI Job Instruction methodology for your organization.

You are most likely starting out or are somewhere along the deployment path…..but now comes the reality check! The course you have chosen is laden with obstacles for those ill-prepared. Obstacles, as Henry Ford best describes them, “being those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off the goal.” Are established goals and measures in place supporting your company’s TWI-JI rollout? Is your leadership team aware, aligned and focused on the enormity of the task at hand? Does Management truly know the operational and ROI status of this project?

Cogent Power Inc. is entering the fourth year of its complex, multi-shift, multi-value stream, job instruction undertaking, learning the tips and traps of this management endeavor along the way. From task planning, document development through training, auditing, system controls, results improvement and everything in between, there have been highs and lows, but throughout, Cogent has remained steadfast in staying the course. In doing so they have developed a benchmark JI management protocol that is now yielding the expected benefits and results.

By attending this breakout session and acquiring key takeaways from a company that is continuously learning the requisite self discipline and necessary ingredients of a successful TWI Job Instruction management process, you can better prepare your organization to take full advantage of the potential payback from this dynamic standard work process.

Upon completion of this session, participants will learn…

  • Standard work re: TWI Job Instruction methodology is about re-patterning behaviors, recognizing the added importance of TWI Job Relations where involving a mature workforce;

  • Management must take an active and engaged leadership role and adopt routine leader standard work thinking;

  • Disciplined PDCA project management approach is required;

  • TWI Job Instruction is about commitment, if not don’t bother!
