Sustaining TWI at Toyoda Gosei: Effective Training and Continuous Improvement Through Job Instruction

This session will summarize how our company has evolved and matured through our TWI journey, while striving for overall continuous improvement. By developing an intensive Job Instruction implementation plan through Jl sessions as well as employee consensus meetings, we have been able to build employee commitment to the TWI programs with overall improved productivity for our organization. Throughout this session, we will outline our implementation and sustainability process and show the full impact TWI has had within our organization.

  • Barriers to effective implementation of Job Instruction.

  • How Job Instruction has become an effective employee development tool.

  • The use of consensus meetings as an important employee communication tool for Job Instruction.

  • The importance of a structured training plan and how it increases value for our most important resource - the employee.

  • Maintaining an intensive follow-up program to allow the most effective coaches and trainers.

Jaime Portillo

Jaime Portillo has worked at Toyoda Gosei Fluid Systems, USA Corp., Brighton, MI for 7 years. Jaime has held various positions within Toyoda Gosei, from Team Leader, Training Coordinator, to his current role as Training Analyst. Since the companies decision in 2010 to drive the TWI programs through the organization, Jaime has helped lead the efforts in carrying the methodology across multiple departments while seeing tremendous improvements across safety, quality, cost and delivery. In assisting with the companies Lean efforts and as a certified TWI Job Instruction Trainer, Jaime has been helping to drive the TWI initiative by instructing all employees in Job Instruction and moving closer to further JI sustainability through full employee commitment.
